Critical thinking about AI
Knowing when to verify
Judge which AI answers need checking before use, and how thoroughly, according to the stakes.
Not every answer deserves the same scrutiny. A list of ideas for a brainstorm can be used as it is; a figure in a financial report, a legal clause or medical information must be checked against a reliable source.
Checking everything cancels out the time AI saves; checking nothing lets errors through. The skill lies in matching the effort to the consequences of a mistake and to how easy the claim is to check.
Useful questions: what happens if this is wrong? Who will read it? Can I check it quickly? When the stakes are high and no check is possible, the answer should not be used.
In the reports of your games, every answer linked to this skill counts: the skill is shown as acquired from 80% of correct answers, and in progress from 50%.
