Fixing formats

Make dates, amounts, units and codes follow a single format so that they can be compared and computed.

The same information can be written in many ways: 03/04/2026 or 2026-04-03, €49.90 or 49,90 €, kilograms or grams, FR or France. Fixing formats means bringing each field to a single, documented convention.

Inconsistent formats break joins, sorting and calculations without raising an error: a date read the wrong way round, an amount off by a factor of a hundred, a country counted twice. The mistakes surface late, in a report or in the output of a model.

Fix formats as close to the source as possible, keep the original value when a conversion is uncertain, and prefer standard formats (ISO 8601 for dates, ISO codes for countries and currencies) that every tool reads the same way.
