A data and AI game for your event, trade show or workshop
A data and AI game for events: get a room playing by QR code without accounts, show a live leaderboard on screen and run an AI awareness workshop.
A trade show, an internal conference, an offsite, a cybersecurity awareness week or an "AI" workshop: all of these need an activity that starts in a minute, that everyone understands, and that leaves a message behind. A Maketools public game is built for exactly that: attendees scan a QR code and play on their phone, without creating an account, while a screen shows the leaderboard.
How do you get a room playing without accounts?
- Fork a game and adapt it if you like: your colours, your logo, a few cases tied to the event's theme (see fork a game).
- Publish it with Public access: it can then be played without an account, at
/{your-organisation}/{game}. - Open presenter mode and connect the laptop to the projector: the screen shows the game's title, a large QR code, the short address, the number of players and completed plays, and the session leaderboard, refreshed roughly every five seconds.
- Attendees scan, pick a nickname (optional) and play.
The complete guide, with set-up tips, is in public games and events.
Which game for which event?
| Situation | Suggested game | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Booth or coffee break, very mixed audience | AI or Not AI? | 4 to 8 minutes, the rule is clear after one request, and the end-of-game player profile gets people talking |
| Workshop on using AI assistants | Prompt Quest | players see the AI's answer change with the quality of the prompt |
| Talk on misinformation or critical thinking | Hallucination Hunter | sorting answers into reliable, hallucinated, biased or to be checked |
| Data event, launch of a data project | Data Cleaning Rush | a fast, visual arcade game about data quality |

How many players, and at what cost?
Public games are free on every plan and never take up a private game slot. On the Free plan, all of your organisation's public games share a monthly allowance of plays; paid plans make them unlimited. Players without an account are never counted as seats. See plan limits.
What happens to attendees' data?
A player without an account provides no personal data. Their nickname, if they choose one, is only used for the leaderboard and the presenter screen, and stays attached to their play session. A public game's leaderboard never shows a real name, not even for a signed-in member of your organisation. Results feed your organisation's reports as totals: players without an account are never listed. See player privacy.
The Maketools welcome screen
Before the first play of a public game, players see a short Maketools welcome screen (introduction, QR code to the website), which they can skip after a few seconds. It uses no cookies or trackers and does not come back when they replay. It never appears on your private games.
Running it: a 20-minute format
- Hook (2 minutes): a question to the room, for example "who has ever pasted a work document into an AI assistant?".
- Play (8 minutes): everyone scans and plays; the leaderboard runs on screen.
- Debrief (10 minutes): go back over two or three cases the room got wrong, and the rule behind them. This is the moment that turns a game into a message.
Between two sessions, New session resets the leaderboard and counters; the plays stay in your reports.
After the event
An event sparks interest; a programme builds habits. To follow up with your teams, switch the same game to Organisation access and follow the 30-day AI literacy plan.
Try it before the day
Play a game from the catalogue, no account needed, then test the presenter-mode QR code with your phone from the back of the room.
