Plan limits

What happens when your organization reaches a limit of its plan, which plan lifts it, and what changes when it moves to a lower plan.

Members

The Free plan allows 3 members, including you. Paid plans have no member limit.

  • You can always send invitations. The invitation list warns you when you get close to the limit.
  • The limit applies when an invitation is accepted: if the organization already has 3 members, the person sees that the organization reached the member limit of its plan, and does not join. The invitation stays pending: they can accept it again once you move to a paid plan.
  • Someone who is already a member can always accept a new invitation.

Online private games

An online private game is a deployed fork (not archived) with Organization or Restricted visibility. The Free plan allows 1 at the same time, Plus 3, Pro and Enterprise an unlimited number. The limit counts online private games only: you can create, edit, test and release as many forks as you like, and put as many public games online as you like (they never count).

  • Deploying a new release of a game that already holds a place, or rolling it back, is always possible.
  • Putting one more private game online than the limit allows is refused, with an invitation to upgrade.
  • The limit applies to the number of online private games at any given time, however a game becomes one: changing the visibility of an online game from Public to Organization or Restricted is refused in the same way if the limit is reached.
  • To free a place, withdraw the deployment of a private game (Releases page), archive it or make it public. Its draft and releases are kept: you can deploy it again later.

Plays on public games

On the Free plan, the organization's public games accept 1,000 plays per calendar month in total, counted in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Beyond that:

  • new plays on your public games are refused until the 1st of the following month (UTC);
  • plays already started can be finished.

Not counted: catalog demos, tests of your forks (Test button) and plays of your private games. The Plus, Pro and Enterprise plans have no play limit.

Features

When you try a feature or go over a limit, Maketools tells you the cheapest plan that lifts it. Owners get a link to the billing screen; other roles are asked to contact an Owner.

What is refused Plan that lifts it
4th member Plus
2nd or 3rd online private game Plus
4th online private game Pro
Public play beyond 1,000 in the month Plus
PDF report Plus

Moving to a lower plan

When your organization moves to a lower plan (from Pro to Plus, cancellation, or payment failed for more than 7 days), nothing is deleted: drafts, releases, access rules, statistics and reports are kept, and members stay members. But the limits of the new plan apply:

  • Online private games beyond the limit are suspended. The places go to the games deployed longest ago (a game keeps its place when you redeploy it or roll it back; it starts over when you withdraw its deployment and deploy it again). For example, when moving from Plus to Free, the private game deployed first stays playable; the others show players "This game is temporarily unavailable", without mentioning your plan. SCORM packages of a suspended game do not launch either.
  • A suspended game cannot be redeployed, and no other private game can be put online, while the organization is over the limit.
  • Public games are never suspended by the move. On Free, the limit of 1,000 public plays per month applies again.
  • The Studio flags suspended games in the fork list and on their Releases page; Owners get a link to the billing screen, which shows how many games are suspended and links back to the Studio.
  • Suspended games come back by themselves as soon as the organization moves to a higher plan again, or frees a place by withdrawing the deployment of another private game or archiving it (within about ten seconds).
  • The features of the higher plan (PDF reports, SSO, SCORM, xAPI, public API) are no longer available.
  • You cannot welcome another member until you are back under the member limit or you move to a higher plan again; existing members stay.
