Fork a game

Create your organisation's own copy of a catalogue game.

Forking creates your organisation's own version of a catalogue game. You then edit it freely without affecting the original game or other organisations.

Create a fork

  1. Find the game in the catalogue (search, skill filters, sorting) and choose Fork. From the studio, Fork a game takes you to the catalogue. The fork window then reminds you which game you are forking.
  2. Pick an address (the slug): 3 to 40 lowercase letters, digits or hyphens, for example onboarding-2026. The game will be played at /{your-organisation}/{slug}. Each slug is unique within your organisation.
  3. Choose the source language of the fork among the game's languages: it is the language you will edit it in. It never changes afterwards; the other languages will be translations.
  4. Optionally give the fork a title, in that language (plain text on one line, up to 80 characters, without HTML). By default it takes the game's title in that language.

Your new fork starts with:

  • the game's default content in the source language, ready to adapt;
  • the other languages of the game, taken over as complete translations: a Prompt Quest fork written in French is also in English from the start. Each text you change then becomes "to translate" in these languages (see Translate a fork);
  • the latest version of the game, pinned: later versions never change your fork unless you choose to update;
  • access set to your organisation: only signed-in members can play once it is deployed (see Who can play).

Nothing is visible to players until you deploy a release.

Custom-made games (Enterprise plan)

With the Enterprise plan, Maketools can create custom-made games for your organisation, according to your contract. They are not in the public catalogue and have no demo: they are listed in the studio, at the top of the Forks page, under "Your custom-made games", with the "Custom-made" badge. Choose Fork on one of them, then follow the same steps.

Only the organisations Maketools granted the game to can fork it. If the agreement ends, your existing forks stay (editing, releases, deployment), but you can no longer create new ones.

Rename or archive

  • You can change the title or the slug of an active fork. The title is written in the source language and translated like the rest of the content: changing it makes it "to translate". Changing the slug changes the address players use.
  • Archiving a fork removes it from its address and makes it read-only. Its releases and statistics are kept.
